TikTok, also known as Douyin (Chinese: 抖 音; pinyin: Dǒuyīn; literally: 'vibrating sound') in China, is an iOS and Android media app for creating and sharing short videos. The application allows users to create short music videos of 3–15 seconds and long videos of 30–60 seconds. To post and interact on TikTok, you will need to create an account. You can register with an email; phone number; or through a Facebook, Google or Twitter account. You will be given a generic username if you use the phone or email, but from there you can customize and edit your privacy and profile settings. In just over a year TikTok managed to conquer nearly 27 million users in the United States alone. The app was downloaded more than 660 million times in 2018. TikTok has managed to position itself as one of the most popular applications on Google Play and the App Store. According to Sensor Tower, TikTok has outperformed Instagram in Q2 2019 and is very close to Facebook. In the last three months, TikTok has accumulated more than 120 million new installs around the world, while Instagram has not reached 80 million. TikTok has offices in Beijing, Berlin, Jakarta, London, Los Angeles, Moscow, Mumbai, São Paulo, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, and Tokyo.

TikTok is a free mobile video app where users share short clips, often with music. The app originally launched in 2014 as Musical.ly, although under the name TikTok it became more popular. The Washington Post created his account three months ago more than 88,000 fans and more than a million reactions to his videos ranging from clips on writing and topics like fashion. The medium plans to create five weekly posts, three of them directly related to the news and two more fun. TikTok allows content creators to have a Pro account, which offers Analytics to help them better understand their performance and engagement. This tool provides an overview and information on things like your weekly and monthly views, follower growth, and trending videos. Videos are less than a minute long, most barely longer than 15 seconds. Like any other social network, you can search by users, sounds or hashtags to find videos according to your interests. It also allows users to comment and rate the videos on the platform, in addition to following the content creators. Once the app is downloaded, you have to create a user. You can use your Facebook, Twitter or Gmail account for this. The content can be shared through different applications (message, Instagram, WhatsApp, Snapchat or Facebook); add to favorites, save the video or report.

TikTok uses artificial intelligence to analyze the interests and preferences of users. For a newspaper like The Washington Post, for example, Tik Tok users “are the people of the future, whether you like it or not. From a commercial perspective ”. The well-known outlet told Journalist.uk that Tik Tok "is a great creative space and a really collaborative space perfect for a newspaper."
